Del Mar, CA … It takes just $150 to ensure your place in the iconic history of the Del Mar Fairgrounds where legendary celebrities like Bing Crosby hobnobbed with racegoers and daredevil performers thrilled fairgoers with breathtaking, high-wire feats. The San Diego County Fair dates back to the 1880s; the Fairgrounds to the 1930s. Your customized brick at the Don Diego Legacy Fountain in the Plaza de Mexico will live forever alongside this rich history.

You can personalize your attractive brick with text and images that celebrate your fun Fairgrounds memory or honor a special person in your life. You also can purchase a replica brick to embellish your home or office.

Currently, hundreds of legacy bricks decorate the pathway to the Fountain. Together, they tell a story of cherished family times, great days at the Fair and (“Thank you, Zenyatta!”) big racetrack wins. Add your chapter to the ongoing story at staging.dondiegoscholarship.org.

According to Don Diego Executive Director Chana Mannen, proceeds from the Legacy Brick program enable the Foundation to continue providing generous college scholarships to outstanding students. She notes, “In 2015, we awarded $42,500 to 14 remarkable recipients attending prestigious colleges around the country. We also use the funds to bring busloads of low-income elementary students to the Fair’s Plant*Grow*Eat program to learn about agriculture and nutrition in a hands-on way.”

The Don Diego Scholarship Foundation was named for Don Diego, AKA Tom Hernandez, who served as the Fair’s welcoming goodwill ambassador from 1947-1984. The Foundation has awarded more than $682,500 in college scholarships and grants for agricultural education since its inception in 1986.
